By STAFF REPORTS
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Cherokee Nation Entertainment announced July 13 its new arts and crafts consignment policy effective immediately for all Cherokee Nation gift shops throughout the 14-county jurisdictional area.
The Cherokee Nation Gift Shop located at the Tribal Complex in Tahlequah is the primary location to submit items for consideration and distribution to other CN gift shops located in the CN Welcome Center in Kansas, Okla.; Cherokee Heritage Center in Park Hill; the Cherokee National Supreme Court Museum in Tahlequah; and Cherokee Gallery in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Catoosa.
Art and crafts will be accepted at the CN Gift Shop in Tahlequah on the first and last Thursday of each month for consignment consideration.
“Arts and crafts are a very important part of Native American heritage and culture and certainly a viable means for Cherokee people to tell their story,” CNE CEO David Stewart said. “We have extremely talented artists in the local area, and we feel this is a great opportunity for them to showcase their art in a high-volume, yet safe and profitable environment.”
All Native American artists are eligible for the consignment program and must provide a copy of their Certificate Degree of Indian Blood card upon registering arts and crafts. Artists will also be required to complete a CNE artist-Cherokee gallery consignment agreement.
“We are committed to providing the resources suitable to both parties so that Cherokee Nation Gift Shops can have first-rate pieces that reflect the finest in Native American craftsmanship, and artists can have a retail location that puts its best efforts forward in achieving a sale on their behalf,” Stewart said.
