By CHRISTINA GOOD VOICE Senior Reporter TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Tribal Council at its Aug. 16 meeting authorized the Department of Children, Youth and Family Services to submit an application for funding to the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs for emergency youth shelter services and prevention and diversion services. The department is applying for $273,628 to supplement the operations of emergency shelter and supportive services at the John A. Ketcher Youth Services Center. The application does not require matching funds from the Cherokee Nation. An average of 220 youths are served annually at the center, with the majority referred from within the tribe’s 14-county jurisdiction.christina-goodvoice@cherokee.org • (918) 207-3825
