OWASSO, Okla. – Owasso pitcher and Cherokee Nation citizen Dylan Bundy has given a verbal commitment to play baseball at the University of Texas following his high school graduation in 2011.

The hard-throwing right-hander compiled an 11-1 record with a 1.58 earned run average and 164 strikeouts in 79-2/3 innings in his first year in the Class 6A program.

When not pitching, Bundy played third base, hitting for a .442 batting average with seven home runs and 58 RBIs. He was tied for team honors in hits (57) and runs scored (50) and led the Rams in doubles (16).

Bundy is also considered one of the top national prospects for the 2011 Amateur Baseball Draft.

“I’m happy for Dylan,” Owasso coach Larry Turner said. “We’ve never had a player sign with Texas. They are a first-class program. Dylan ranks third or fourth among the top prospects in the country coming out next year. He’ll make (Texas) a great player if he indeed ends up playing there.” In two seasons at Sperry, Bundy compiled a 22-2 record. His older brother Bobby signed out of high school with the Baltimore Orioles in 2008. Verbal commitments are non-binding.
