Cherokee Nation to offer free money management classes

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Cherokee Nation will offer money management workshops to the public during February in Sallisaw, Claremore and Tahlequah.

The workshops will focus on financial planning, budgeting, expense tracking and the importance of maintaining a savings account. Attendees do not to be a Cherokee Nation citizen or a Native American to participate. All classes are free.

Rita Whaler, a homebuyer trainer from the CN Mortgage Assistance Program, will conduct a workshop from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 at the tribe’s Sallisaw Housing Services Office located at 2260 W. Cherokee. 

The workshop is limited to 20. Interested parties should call Whaler at (918) 456-5482, ext. 256 or e-mail rita-whaler@cherokee.org to reserve a seat. 

Terri Crow, also a MAP homebuyer trainer, will conduct the workshops in Claremore and Tahlequah. 

The Claremore class is set for 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the tribe’s Housing Services Office at 23205 S. Highway 66. Seating is limited to 25. 

The Tahlequah class will be held from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the tribe’s Housing Services Office located at 1500 Hensley Drive. Seating is limited to 40.
