Gov. Stitt promotes Wright to brigadier general

Brig. Gen. and Cherokee Nation citizen Brent Wright
TULSA – Oklahoma Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Mike Thompson, announced May 1 that Gov. Kevin Stitt has promoted Air Force Col. Brent Wright to the rank of brigadier general.

Wright, a Cherokee Nation citizen, previously served as the vice wing commander of the 138th Fighter Wing in Tulsa.

Brig. Gen. Wright serves as the assistant adjutant general for the Oklahoma Air National Guard. He is the principle advisor to the adjutant general for all Oklahoma Air National Guard matters. Additionally, he is responsible for the combat readiness and operational effectiveness for all Oklahoma Air National Guard units.

Gen. Wright began his career in April 1989 as an infantryman with the 45th Infantry Brigade. He received a commission into the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He transferred to the Air Force Judge General’s Corps and subsequently was appointed as a line officer, commanding at the group and wing levels.

He has extensive overseas peacetime and contingency deployment experience supporting Operations “Coronet Oak,” “Joint Forge,” “Northern Watch,” “Iraqi Freedom” and “Enduring Freedom.”

Gen. Wright is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, the University of Tulsa College of Law and has completed a National Security Fellowship at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
