Cherokee Phoenix announces quarterly giveaway winner

TAHLEQUAH – Congratulations to Theta Reed, of Collinsville, for the Cherokee Phoenix’s second-quarter giveaway contest.

Reed won two pairs of earrings and a necklace by Cherokee artist Elaine Hughes during a July 1 drawing with 42 entries.

Reed joins Julia Dahl, of Chico, California; Bryce Adair, of Alva; Naomi Birdtail, of Tahlequah; Dusty Helbling, of Ozark, Arkansas; James McNew, of El Dorado, Kansas; Geneva Collins, of Park Hill; Steven Rice, of Bartlesville; Patrick Swartz, of Bellevue, Nebraska; Charlotte Foster from Chelsea; Dana Parks from Brownsboro, Texas; Nan Butler, of Wellston, Wauneta Wine of Columbia, Maryland; and Dale Easky of St. Clair, Missouri, as Cherokee Phoenix quarterly giveaway winners.

Dahl won a necklace and earrings made by Cherokee artist Brandi Brown. Adair won seven books by the late Cherokee author Robert J. Conley. Birdtail won a handmade buffalo tooth necklace by Cherokee artist Sherri Hattori. Helbling won a custom 12-foot, two-piece fishing pole by Larry Fulton of Larry’s Bait and Tackle in Fort Gibson. McNew won a loom-woven blanket by Cherokee weaver Janice Dreadfulwater, of Tahlequah. Collins won a handcrafted wooden art by Cherokee artist Jay Cox of Notchietown Hardwoods. Rice won a booger mask and scissor-cut art by Tana Washington of Scissor Cut Art. Swartz won an 18-inch-by-24-inch limited-edition giclee on canvas titled “Gifts of Life” by Traci Rabbit of Rabbit Studios. Foster won a finger-woven belt made by Cherokee artist Jules Brison of Waterspider Creations. Parks won beaded jewelry made by Native Uniques owner Samantha Barnes. Butler won four painted tiles by Cherokee artist MaryBeth Timothy of MoonHawk Art. Wine won a carving by Cherokee sculptor Matthew Girty, and Easky won a knife by Cherokee knife maker Ray Kirk.

The Cherokee Phoenix will hold its third 2019 quarterly drawing on Oct. 1 when it gives away two stained glass pieces by Cherokee artist Brandi Hines of Agisti Stained Glass.

Entries for the drawing can be obtained by donating to the Cherokee Phoenix’s Elder/Veterans Subscription Fund or buying a Cherokee Phoenix subscription or merchandise. One entry is given for every $10 spent or donated.
