Cherokee Nation inauguration ceremony set for Aug. 14

TAHLEQUAH – Principal Chief-elect Chuck Hoskin Jr., Deputy Principal Chief-elect Bryan Warner and eight recently elected tribal councilors will take their oaths of office on Aug. 14 to serve the Cherokee Nation, its employees and citizens for the next four years.

Hoskin, of Vinita, will serve as the 18th constitutionally elected principal chief. Prior to being elected, Hoskin served as the tribe’s secretary of state. He also formerly served as a tribal councilor, representing Dist. 11 for six years.

Warner, of Sallisaw, has served as the Dist. 6 representative on the Tribal Council for the past four years. He was also the campus director of Carl Albert State College in Sallisaw.

Incoming tribal councilors are Rex Jordan – Dist. 1, Wes Nofire – Dist. 3, Daryl Legg – Dist. 6, Shawn Crittenden – Dist. 8, Dora L. Smith Patzkowski – Dist. 12, Joe Deere – Dist. 13, Keith Austin – Dist. 14 and Julia Coates – At-Large.

The elected leaders will be sworn in at 10 a.m. by Supreme Court Chief Justice James Wilcoxen at the tribe’s Chota Conference Center, adjacent to Cherokee Casino Tahlequah at 307 Seven Clans Ave.
