TAHLEQUAH – Area youth are invited to sit on a Cherokee National Youth Choir rehearsal at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22 to see how the choir prepares for performances and to see if they would like to audition for the choir.
The rehearsal will be in the community room behind the Restaurant of the Cherokees in Tahlequah. Parents are encouraged to attend.
The choir is open to Cherokee Nation citizens in grades sixth through 11th who like to sing and are interested in learning the Cherokee language. Visitors will be able to enjoy refreshments and meet choir members and staff. Youth can also sign up for an audition time at the rehearsal.
The choir performs traditional Cherokee and contemporary songs in the Cherokee language. The goal of the choir is to increase awareness of Cherokee language and culture within the Cherokee Nation as well as outside the nation’s boundaries. Through the success of the choir, interest in the Cherokee language has been rekindled among young people throughout the CN.
