TAHLEQUAH – The Cherokee Nation will host its annual Veterans Appreciation Day event at 9 a.m. on Nov. 8 at the tribe’s Veterans Center on the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex.

The CN Veterans Appreciation Day event includes a wreath-laying ceremony, cultural activities, a resource fair as well as breakfast provided to veterans.

Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. will announce future steps for establishing a CN veterans cemetery.

The CN estimates there are more than 4,000 Cherokee veterans. Native Americans, including Cherokees, are thought to have more citizens serving per capita than any other ethnic group, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

For information, call the Veterans Center at 918-772-4166.
