STILWELL – Cherokee Nation citizen Robert E. Lee IV’s passion for the outdoors has blossomed into a growing small business.

Lee said his father would take him to the woods from the time he could walk, which spurred his love for the outdoors.

“It’s kind of always been in my roots, growing up in the woods. My whole family hunted, and I grew up around it from the time I could remember,” Lee said. “When I was about 7 years old, I was turkey hunting for the first time in my life with my uncle and my cousin. I can still remember the thrill of hearing that bird gobble. Since that day it’s just been burning inside of me. It’s something I’m absolutely ate up with.”

Lee started saving money and eventually purchased the equipment needed to produce his custom turkey calls. He made his first call in February 2018 and launched R4 Game Calls. Since then, Lee has steadily grown his customer base from friends and family to shipping his calls to out-of-state customers.

“I’m selling calls to Kansas and Montana, people that I’ve never even met before,” he said. “I’m hoping in the next couple of years I can get into more than just turkey calls. I can start building duck calls, some turkey box calls, maybe some grunt calls or something cool like that.”

Lee said he looks to expand R4 Game Calls, but for now making turkey calls is proving to be a full-time job as he is a one-man operation. For information, visit https://www.facebook.com/R4-custom-game-calls-138850350297010/.
