TAHLEQUAH – The Cherokee Nation set up a food drive for all veterans on Dec. 15 at the Tribal Complex where officials and employees provided produce and chicken. Along with the food, Cherokee veterans received a blanket as thanks for their service.
“I think the turnout is even greater than I expected,” said Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. “You know, the weather’s turning cold. It’s difficult times right now with COVID, but I think this is an example of how we’re playing it safe. So, people are able to drive through, stay in their vehicles. Everybody’s gloved up and wearing masks. I think we’re setting a good example and also providing a great service to the veterans.”
CN officials also made a stop in Vian on Dec. 16 and will be in South Coffeyville at 11 a.m. on Dec. 18 at the Native American Fellowship Inc., or NAFI, Building.
