TAHLEQUAH – The Cherokee Nation will begin taking applications for the 2019 Camp Cherokee on March 15. Camp Cherokee offers day camps for elementary students and a week-long residential camp for middle and high school students.

Camp Cherokee is free to CN citizens and exposes youth to arts, culture, traditional games, storytelling and activities that focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Day camps are for CN citizens entering grades first through sixth during the 2019-20 school year. They will be offered in six locations throughout the CN in May, June and July.

“Camp Cherokee is such a rewarding experience, not only for our campers but our staff and volunteers as well,” Mark Vance, CN Johnson-O’Malley manager, said. “To see these Cherokee youth really engage in these activities is really special to watch, and I know it will have a positive impact on their future.”

The residential camp will be held July 21-26 at Camp Heart O’Hills in Welling. This overnight camp is for CN citizens entering grades seventh through 12th during the 2019-20 school year. Students will attend morning and afternoon classes based on their areas of interest. CN youth who live outside the tribe’s 14-county service area are also welcome at the residential camp.

Applications for day camps and the residential camp will be online at www.camp.cherokee.org beginning March 15.

For more information, call 918-453-5224 or email camp@cherokee.org. Space is limited for the residential camp and early applications receive preference.
