Cherokees compete in ‘Fun and Field Day’
TAHLEQUAH – Between 350 and 400 children with special needs gathered at the Doc Wadley Football Stadium on March 28 to participate in the fifth annual “Fun and Field Day” competitions.
Of those children, approximately 150 were Native Americans with some being Cherokees.
Students from Grand View, Heritage, Woodall, Pryor and other schools across northeast Oklahoma came to compete in morning events such as Bocce ball, softball throw, the standing long jump and basketball roll. In the afternoon, kids competed on the NSU track in several walking, running and wheelchair events. First, second and third places were awarded.
