Will Rogers museums returning to 7-day week schedule, lists upcoming events

CLAREMORE – On Thursday, March 1, the Will Rogers Memorial Museum in Claremore and the Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch near Oologah will return to a 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 7-day week schedule.

A Will Rogers Wings Race, originally on the calendar for March 17, has been changed to Aug. 18.

Also, the museums released a schedule of events for this year.

March 19-23 — Spring Break, 1-3 p.m., 17 and under, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Will Rogers Memorial Museum; Tuesday and Thursday, Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch; free thanks to donation from Win and Kay Ingersoll. (Talent Show Friday — movie theme, ages 5-18)

March 31 — Optimist Club Easter Egg Hunt, 11:30 a.m., Will Rogers Memorial Museum

April 7 — Family Day at the Ranch, 1-3 p.m., Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch

Ranch staff will showcase kitchen garden and focus on vegetables and herbs likely grown in Mrs. Rogers’ kitchen garden. Visitors will have opportunity to help prepare coil and plant.

April 19 — Lecture Series, 6 p.m., Will Rogers Memorial Museum

Steve Warren, author of “The Second Battle at Cabin Creek: Brilliant Victory,” a finalist in the 2013 non-fiction category of Oklahoma Center for the Book Oklahoma Book Awards will lecture.

May 12 — Family Day at the Ranch, 1-3 p.m., Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch

Nature hikes on trail in the valley along the shores of Oologah Lake, bird watching and identifying different birds common to the area, walking sticks and field notebook for sketching will be available for purchase.

June 1 — Garden Tour Party, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Will Rogers Memorial Museum

June 16 — Family Day at the Ranch, 1-3 p.m., Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch
Cane pole fishing and nature hike

June 25-27 — Frontier Days Kids Camp, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch, ages 5-12, hands-on activity about ranch life in the 1800s. $45 per child for non-members of Will Rogers Memorial Museums, $30 for members.

July 14 — Family Day at the Ranch, 1-3 p.m., Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch

Carpentry class, first 20 participants will build birdhouses, families learn carpentry basics and build a birdhouse together

Aug. 11 — Will Rogers & Wiley Post Fly-In Birthplace Ranch, gates open 7:30 a.m. Admission free. Sponsored by Cherokee Nation

Aug. 18 — Family Day at the Ranch, 1-3 p.m., Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch

Cornhusk doll make and take with Rogers County Cherokee youth group

Aug. 18 — Will Rogers Race, 7 a.m., Cherokee Nation Wings, 5K & Fun Run
Rogers State University Reserve

Sept. 8 — Family Day at the Ranch, 1-3 p.m., Will Rogers Birthplace

Harvest party, focus on harvesting crops grown during season, especially pears from trees on ground with carpentry station to build crate to hold produce

Oct. 13 — Family Day at the Ranch, 1-3 p.m., Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch

Chuckwagon cooking, open fire

Oct. 31 — Halloween Night at the Museum, 6-8 p.m., Will Rogers Memorial

Trick or Treat, costume contest in large theater

Nov. 1-4 — Will Rogers Birthday Bash

Will Rogers Memorial Museum-Birthplace Ranch and Claremore community activities

Nov. 30-Dec. 1 — Will Rogers Country Christmas, 5-9 p.m., Birthplace Ranch

Dec. 8 & 15 — Santa Photos, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Will Rogers Memorial (Bring own camera)
