Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club to honor Will Rogers’ birthday
CLAREMORE – The Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club will pay homage to Will Rogers’ birthday at 2 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Will Rogers Memorial Museum.
According to a press release, the club gathers annually in the memorial’s rotunda and places a basket of fall foliage at the base of a statue of Rogers, just as his wife Betty Blake Rogers did. It’s followed by a brief history of the ceremony.
The release also states members then exit the rotunda as a Native drummer beats a drum and sings as the procession follows the path to the garden, where club members lay a ceremonial wreath at Rogers’ tomb.
This year’s guest speaker is Stacy Leeds, a CN citizen and former CN Supreme Court justice.
Social distancing will be required.
