TAHLEQUAH – Emily Barrett, a Cherokee Nation citizen and Northeastern State University freshman, has been offered a prestigious summer internship at the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.

The business management major from Springdale, Arkansas, will intern in the NMAI’s Executive Planning Office. She’ll work to develop and improve various projects throughout the museum.
“I’m most looking forward to learning more about my culture, Cherokee descent, while I learn about what I am passionate about, which is business,” Barrett said.

Barrett said she hopes to own a business, and this internship will help her build leadership skills that will be crucial in pursuing that goal after she graduates.
