TAHLEQUAH – Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. was recently reappointed as the Oklahoma area alternate delegate to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Secretary’s Tribal Advisory Committee.
The STAC allows tribal leaders from across the country to meet with HHS officials to provide tribal guidance on the department’s priorities and budget, as well as improve the relationship between HHS and tribes.
“It is an honor to continue my service as the Oklahoma area alternate delegate on the STAC,” Hoskin said. “Anytime we have an opportunity to take a seat at the table and make our voice heard, we must capitalize on it. This committee provides leaders in Indian Country the chance to influence priorities, policy and budget decisions in hopes of improving the lives of Native people from all around the country.”
As the alternate delegate, Hoskin will participate in forums, meetings and conversations between federal officials and elected tribal leaders. The STAC meets quarterly, with its next meeting scheduled for May 9-10. The Cherokee Nation hosted a quarterly meeting in September.
