Native Re-vision seeks Native All-Star football applicants
TAHLEQUAH, Okla.— Native Re-vision will present its 10th annual Jim Thorpe Native All-Star football game at 7 p.m. July 9 at the University of North Texas. The game showcases Native high school seniors from across the United States.
Native Re-vision supports and guides Native American student athletes to identify unique talents, set goals and achieve their dreams. Through its yearly events, programs and mentoring, participants are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities that life presents, leading them down a successful path of achievement and transition into adulthood, according to their mission statement.
Only athletes that will be a high school graduate by the end of June 2011 are eligible to apply. Sending in the application does not confirm the athlete an automatic spot on the team. All applications will be reviewed by the football director or designee. All information is used to determine if the athlete will fit in a position on one of the two all-star teams, the red team or the white team.
Selected athletes will be asked to provide their own transportation to and from the game, bedding and personal hygiene supplies.
Other events the day of the football game include a powwow, health and education exposition and a VIP dinner for tribal leaders, sponsors, UNT faculty, dignitaries and volunteers.
